As a Hereford resident who lives with Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus i shouldn’t have been forced to lobby Herefordshire Council to get a disabled parking space at the cities biggest parking site.
Disabled parking spaces are vital for those with disabilities or mobility issues who require bigger spaces to park and leave there vehicles or just get dropped off.
I first wrote to the local authority (Herefordshire Council) about the issue in October last year (2025).
Within that letter i explained why there was a real need for a disabled parking bay at the Merton Meadow parking site in Hereford.
This was never about me as an individual, but about the wider disabled community who need somewhere safe to park when visiting the town centre.
It is interesting that in one breath I was told there were no plans to put a parking space at the site and in the next they (the council) agreed to meet with me and discuss the issue.
Lobbying the authority to make positive change is unfortunately becoming second nature to me having been forced to do something similar when campaigning for more dropped curbs on some of the busiest roads in the county.
My message to officials at the authority is a simple one and this, in the future, please work with me to resolve issues that I raise with you on behalf of our (the disabled) community living in the county.
This will hopefully mean that our lives will continue to be 100% better as we will be able to remain independent without having to fight for things to make our lives better on a regular basis.
We (those with disabilities or mobility issues) have the same human rights as every other citizen living in the United Kingdom.
The safety of those living in the county should be one of the top priorities of the local authority, at times it feels like our community are the forgotten ones, which was not the case this time, but has been before.

A massive shout out and thank you must go to Herefordshire Council once again for their continued support of my campaigns to give those from our community more independence when it comes to travelling around the counties pavements in any means possible. It does not go unnoticed and it’s as always very much appreciated.
