To say that I am delighted that the waiting spaces are being used at some railway stations in the Midlands in an understatement.
West Midlands Railway who are now a publicly funded railway operator installed the accessibility tools at some stations they manage across the network in 2024.
The work continued into 2025 and 2026 and has now seen 20 stations benefit from the tools around the region.
Coventry Arena, The Hawthorns, Aston and Witton Lane stations were among the first to see these improvements on the platforms.
Recently I was browsing social media platform, TikTok and came across a video of someone using the tools on the platforms at Coventry Arena station which is a stone’s throw away from the CBS Arena.
Seeing the tools being used and having much need exposure on social media makes my work with the operator, West Midlands Railway worth while.
Rail travel for those with disabilities or mobility issues was incredibly challenging accross the region until the team at WMR (West Midlands Railway) acted on my very simple suggestion in 2023.
I have one very simple message for those from our (the disabled) community who use the rail network to travel around the region, which is this, if you are using the waiting spaces at stations which have them please shout about it on social media (only if you feel comfortable to do so of course).
This project has taken up a lot of my life in the last couple of years and continues to do so at present.

Thank you to the incredible team from the operator who have worked very hard to make this initiative a success, it has not gone unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated.
