Having used the rail network when travelling to and from matches at Villa Park as a wheelchair user for a number of years now by experiences have been brilliant the last 2 times I’ve used Witton Lane railway station near Birmingham.
However is has not always been the case, but the less said about that the better as it is time to move on from what I experienced at the station (Witton Lane) following a FIFA World Cup qualifier hosted at the stadium in September last year (2025).
This evening I once again travelled to and from Witton Lane when I visited Birmingham’s B6 postcode when Aston Villa took on French side LOSC Lille in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter finals.
Once I had arrived back at the station to catch a train back into Birmingham’s New Street station shortly after the final whilst at Villa Park, I was able board a train with the support of station staff within minutes, which was great and something I love to see.
Staff ensured that the senior conductor from the train was aware that I wanted to board the train and of course travel back into Birmingham along with other Villa supporters who had also boarded the train.
Rail travel isn’t the easiest for those with disabilities or mobility issues at the best of times and is even harder when you are surrounded by hundreds of other supporters in a confined spaces.
The support of rail staff and fellow supporters during these times makes my experience on a match-days a thousand times better when trying to get home safely after matches by rail.

As always it is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the team on the ground at Witton tonight for there support in ensuring that I was able to board a train safely on arrival back at the station, following Villa’s Europa League match this evening, it does not go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated.
Thank you to all of the Aston Villa supporters who ensured that I was able to board the train quickly with ease by moving down to the next available door of the train and boarding there. It does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
Finally, a thank you must go to each and everyone of you, my loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, as always it does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
