Please move down the platforms, if you see someone requiring assistance to board trains at railway stations around Villa Park

If you see someone requiring assistance to board trains home at either of the stations surrounding Villa Park, please move down the platform once the train has arrived at the station and board the train at the next available door.

Since I have been travelling by rail to Aston Villa matches to and from Witton station this has unfortunately always been an issue, which makes boarding trains back to New Street station in Birmingham, 10 times harder than it needs to be.

Near enough every time that I visit the station, staff from either the now publicly funded rail operator, West Midlands Railway or there support staff are forced to ask other supporters on the platforms to move down to the next door of the train and board there.

My message to supporters, using Witton Lane station on match-days is a clear one and is this. ” Once again if you see a supporter in a wheelchair trying to board a train with the support of staff at the designated door of the train, please move down to the next available door of the train and board there without being asked by staff “.

” This will ensure that people are not getting in our (the disabled) supporters way not walking over the ramp to board the train quickly after it has been put in place by staff so that people like me are also able to board the train with ease in a timely manner”

” In recent years your support with ensuring that the disabled supporters using the station (Witton Lane) can board trains with ease on after matches has been incredible, how this issue has come to light move than ever in recent months and I believe that it needs to addressed sooner rather than later before it becomes a real issue”.

By changing this behaviour on a match-day at the station things will improve and ensure all supporters have pleasurable experience at the station after matches when trying to get home.
