As a disabled snooker fan, who is a wheelchair user, I welcome the redevelopment of the crucible theatre in Sheffield.

As a wheelchair using snooker fan who has attended the world snooker Championships on two separate occasions at the crucible Theatre in Sheffield I welcome the news that it is going to be redeveloped.

In recent years, I have travelled to Sheffield for the tournament with the last time being by rail.

On arrival at the theatre, I have found it to be very accessible as someone who uses a mobility aid to get around.

However, once safely seated in one of a number of wheelchair bays in the arena itself, I have found it to be a very cramped experience.

Due to the current capacity of the venue, there are limited wheelchair spaces and this means that the disabled community can be bunched up together once inside the arena.

This can make it extremely challenging if you want to leave the arena at the end of a particular frame to get the train home or just go to the toilet.

It is my hope that the proposed redevelopment of the venue will allow for extra wheelchair bays to be added to the current capacity meaning that more room can be made inside of the arena for those with disabilities or mobility issues.

There is however, a wheelchair bay within the arena that allows a spectator to see both tables from where they are seated despite there being a partition in place between the tables.

I love the fact that I was given the opportunity to sit in said seat that I have just mentioned and I hope that this is not removed as part of the works that will be undertaken in the future.
