Those with disabilities or mobility issues will never have to fear travelling by train in the Midlands again after West Midlands railway installed waiting spaces and signage on the platforms at some railway stations they manage in the region.
As you may know over 20 stations managed by the operator now have blue and white boxes which feature a white wheelchair logo and the words “ for mobility assistance, please wait here” on the platforms.
Signage has also been installed by the operator mirroring the same messaging on the platforms so that passengers know where the spaces are if the platforms are busy.
As someone with disability who users a wheelchair to navigate everyday life I rely on the railway to stay as independent as I possibly can.
Rail travel has not always been easy for me especially when I am catching the train from stations which are near to event arenas like Villa Park in Birmingham.
This is why the waiting spaces and accompanying signage are vital for ensuring that our (the disabled) community is seen by passengers, station staff or train crew whilst waiting on the platforms for trains.
My message all rail passengers is this, if you are catching a train from a station that has the spaces please be mindful of where you stand on the platforms, our community will need access to the spaces at all times whilst waiting to board trains at the stations with the support of station staff or train crew.
Since the start of 2024 I have not feared travelling by train because I know the assistance will always be there to ensure that I can travel by rail with ease, In fact I don’t think I will ever again thanks to the incredible work the now publicly funded rail operator West Midlands Railway.

As always it is only right that I take this opportunity to thank the accessibility team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern railway for their hard work and dedication in recent weeks, months and years to make the rail network accessible to all.
This doesn’t go unnoticed and is of course as always very much appreciated.
A thank you must also go to each and everyone of you my regular loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts.
Once again, it does not go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated and always will be.
