As a wheelchair user I am fed up of having to navigate around vehicles which are parked over dropped curbs whilst out and about on the pavement networks.
This morning (Friday May the 1st, 2026) whilst heading to the supermarket I came across one such vehicle and was forced to travel further up the pavement to the next curb and across the road from there to get around the vehicle.
A few months ago I wrote a similar blog to this where I urged motorists to reframe from parking on the pavements and over dropped curbs which are of course vital for those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters to get on and off the pavement network safely.
So it is very frustrating that I feel I have no choice but write a similar blog only a few months later, urging motorists to once again reframe from parking on the pavements or over dropped curbs.
Carrying out such action in Scotland is illegal with motorists being fined if they are caught doing so on the countries (Scotland’s) road networks, which is brilliant to see.
However back to today and my message to all motorists remains the same from February this year and is this, “ please consider where you park and who it might affect, dropped curbs are a vital part of our pavement network for the entire disabled community as we try to live our lives as independently as possible”.
My message continued with, “ Even if you have to drive 50 to 100 meters down the road to find a parking space, just do it, I know it’s an inconvenience to you but in actual fact it will mean we (the disabled community) don’t have to risk our own lives”.
“ Enough is most definitely enough, this needs to stop today not in 5 or 10 years time”
Finally I want to say this to all motorists, ” from now on I will be calling pavement parking out as soon as I come across it because it is becoming ridiculous now and should not be happening in 2026″.

Thank you to all the responsible motorists who do not park on the pavement meaning that I am able to safely navigate the streets without fear of having to venture onto the roads or up to next dropped curb.
Your support with this is not unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated.
A thank you must also go to each and every one of you, my loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, again it does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
Remember this, is there a safe place for me to park without putting any pedestrians like wheelchair or mobility scooter users at risk as a direct result of where I choose to park my vehicle.
