From the gardens of Buckingham Palace to 34 railway stations with waiting spaces and signage on the platforms.

Two years ago today (8th of May, 2024) I visited the grounds of Buckingham Palace and attended a royal garden party which was hosted by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, The Princess Royal and The Dukes and Duchess’s of Edinburgh and Gloucester.

It is fair to say that being nominated by the Department for Transport to attend such an event was quite simply an honour and a once in a lifetime opportunity which I will of course never forget.

At the time of the party just two railway stations operated by West Midlands Railway (Aston and Witton) had waiting spaces and signage on the platforms, since then 34 stations operated by West Midlands Railway or London Northwestern Railway have seen the accessibility improvements on the platforms.

The stations that now have the tools across both rail networks are: Coventry Arena,
The Hawthorns, Lye, Kenilworth, Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Selly Oak, Telford Central, Shenstone, Blake Street, Erdington, Gravelly Hill, Four Oaks, Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, Wylde Green, Lichfield City, Tile Hill, University, Marston Green, Longbridge (Platform 1 Only), Barnt Green (Platform 1 only), Redditch, Five Ways (Platform 1 only), Canley (Platform 1 only), Lea Hall,
Stechford, Stone (Platform 1 only), Berkhamsted (Platform’s 3 & 4 only), Hemel Hempsted (Platform’s 3 & 4 only), Droitwich Spa, Lichfield Trent Valley, Jewellery Quater (Platform 1 only) and Hartford.

This most definitely was not something that I expected to be the case 2 years on from when Aston station got the accessibility tools, but here we are.

As always I would like to once again take this opportunity to thank the incredible accessibility team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway, who have gone above and beyond in recent weeks, months and years to ensure that our (the disabled) community can travel by rail with confidence and ease.

Your hard work and dedication in solving this issue has not gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated and always will be.

A thank you must also go to each and everyone of you, my regular loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, it does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
