Members of Parliament from across the Midlands and beyond have praised the idea of the accessible waiting spaces and the benefit it will have on there constituents who have disabilities or mobility issues.
In recent months, I have written to all members of Parliament that have railway stations in their constituencies with accessible waiting spaces and signage on the platforms.
Some of those who I wrote to replied by thanking me for the work that I have done with the rail operator which will be of some benefit to their constituents.
One of the MPs also posted on X (formally Twitter) in reply to one of my posts about the project by saying“ this is brilliant well done Cameron, and thank you for helping to get them installed in Hamel Hempstead.
Another MP remarked how impressed she was by the work that I’ve been doing to improve accessibility for rail passengers with disabilities across our local network.
The MP for Selly Oak in Birmingham said in an email “ well done for campaigning for these changes, I am certain this will benefit my constituents “
An MP I wrote to even went as far as making a video about the spaces at there local station and posted it on social media.
To say I am delighted is an understatement when I think about the impact this simple idea will have on rail passengers with disabilities or mobility issues across the region.
Hopefully our community will remember these words when travelling by rail “ for mobility assistance, please wait here “
My message to all the members of Parliament that I have written to about the project in recent months is this, thank you from the bottom of my heart the words you have expressed towards this work, mean so much.
Since 2023 I have continually said that this was never about me as an individual but about helping the wider disabled community to travel by rail with ease from stations that are busy or unstaffed.
Spreading the word to our community in all areas of our beautiful region is the best way of ensuring that the rail network can be accessible to all.
Rail travel for those who need assistance to board or disembark trains will now be easier than it ever was before.
Once again, I thank you for your unwavering support. It is very much appreciated and has not gone unnoticed.
