The personal independence payment reform scandal was the biggest mess of this parliamentary session.

The scandal relating to personal independence payment, which is claimed by thousands of people with disabilities and other health conditions was the biggest mess of this parliamentary session.

In the next few hours His Majesty King Charles lll will head to the Palace of Westminster and deliver the Kings speech to officially open the next Parliamentary session.

This is where the priorities of the government will be set out for the next year or so as we hurtel towards the next general election.

As someone that has a disability who claims personal independence payment (PIP) I believe that the way the government announced the reforms into the benefit was shocking and could have been handled better.

I was left feeling anger and upset when the government began talking about these reforms and how they would affect our (the disabled) community, including myself.

My message to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer and Pat McFadden MP, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions is similar to the one from earlier this year and is this:

“ As Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, you could have handled the whole situation around the welfare benefit reforms better, however instead you chose to scare thousands of disabled people including myself”.

“ All I ask is that you learn from your mistakes with this and do not repeat them again in the future when making any key decisions “

“ The next few hours will see you as a government and Prime Minister, given the opportunity to put things right and learn from your mistakes through the kings speech”.

“ I hope the review into the welfare reforms will be concluded quickly by the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), so that further distress is not caused to disabled people who claim the benefit”.
