A number of railway stations across the Midlands are ready to welcome Aston Villa supporters travelling to Birmingham for the clubs Europa League victory parade this afternoon.
The event is due to get underway at 16:30 this afternoon and will see the players and Unai Emery travel with the Europa League trophy through the streets of the second city, Birmingham.
As you know I have been working with the accessibility team at West Midlands Railway for the last few years on a project to improve the accessibility of the stations they manage for passengers who have disabilities or mobility issues.
There are number of stations with waiting spaces and signage on either one or both platforms, which could see supporters travelling to the parade later and they are: Worcester Forgate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Droitwich Spa, University, Selly Oak, Longbridge (Platform 1 only), Lea Hall, Stechford, Marston Green, Redditch, Five Ways (Platform 1 Only), Lichfield City, Lichfield Trent Valley and Barnt Green (Platform 1 Only).
One station in particular may see more supporters requiring assistance to board or disembark trains when travelling to the parade and that is Jewellery Quarter which is near to the start, however there is only a waiting space with accompanying signage on platform 1 at the station in the direction of Birmingham.
My message to any supporters heading to the parade by rail from any of the stations with accessibility tools is this, please be mindful of where you stand of the platforms as those requiring assistance to board trains home will need access to the spaces at all times so that they can be seen by train crew or station staff whilst on the platforms and waiting for there trains.
If you are heading to Birmingham for the victory parade later and require some assistance to either board or disembark trains, your assisted travel can be booked up to 2 hours before departure in any of the following ways:
By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.
Online: https://booking.passengerassistance.com.
Using the Passenger Assistance App: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/passenger-assistance/id1542190496.
However you do have a legal right to turn up at any railway station and travel without booking any assistance prior to departure.
