I’ve spent the last couple of years working with the team at West Midlands Railway to improve the accessibility of some stations they manage for those with disabilities or mobility issues.
In November 2023 I met with senior officials from the operator at Witton Station to discuss the experience that I and others had after attending matches at Villa Park by rail.
From that meeting the idea of having accessible waiting spaces and signage on the platforms was born and WMR began working out how it could be implemented across there network.
Since then over 30 railway stations have seen the introduction of the waiting spaces and signage on the platforms, including Tile Hill station in Coventry. Other stations with the tools include: Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill stations in Worcestershire along with Telford Central in Shropshire.
At the beginning of the scheme I always wanted Tile Hill railway station to have the spaces and signage installed on the platforms and that is because I understand more than most what impact they will have on independence of the students at Hereward College which is located near to the station.
Only time with tell with regards to how far this scheme will go in the weeks, months and years to come.

It is only right that I once again take this opportunity to thank the accessibility team at the operator who have gone above and beyond in recent weeks, months and years to improve the accessibility of stations they manage for those with disabilities or mobility issues.
Your hard work and dedication towards the scheme does not go unnoticed and is as always very much appreciated.
