Several railway stations across Worcestershire have waiting spaces along with accompanying signage on the platforms and now it is time for Ledbury station in Herefordshire to follow suit.
Foregate Street, Shrub Hill, Droitwich Spa and Redditch railway stations in the county all have the blue and white boxes which feature a white wheelchair logo and the words ” for mobility assistance, please wait here” on the platforms.
Signage mirroring the same messaging can be found at the stations and is positioned either directly behind where the spaces are located on the platforms or near to them.
The railway station in Ledbury, Herefordshire had the ” Access for All” funding previously promised to it so that accessibility improvements could be made to the station which s only accessible via platform 1 removed by the government, at the start of the year.
Shortly after this, I asked the Department for Transport to reverse there decision, which they have refused to do, so I have asked DFT to consider funding a waiting space on the accessible platform at Ledbury.
As it would allow rail passengers with disabilities or mobility issues to be seen by train crew who would then be able to assisted them onto the train, travelling in the direction of Hereford.
Passengers who want to alight at Ledbury in the direction of Birmingham, can travel up the railway line to neighbouring Colwall and change trains there so that they arrive back into the market town (Ledbury) on the correct side of the station.
There is no need to purchase a ticket between Ledbury and Colwall if you are planning to just change trains at Colwall and then return to Ledbury should it be related to the accessibility of the station say West Midlands Railway (WMR).
Those of you reading this will know by know that there are over 35 railway stations across the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway networks that have the waiting spaces and accompanying signage on the platforms.
