Messing with the disabled community over personal independence payment is when I believe that it all went wrong for the Prime Minister.

In the last few minutes Sir Keir Starmer has announced that he is stepping down as the leader of the Labour Party and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

As someone who is a member of the disabled community, I believe that it all started going wrong for Sir Keir Starmer when he began messing with the disabled community over the benefit personal independence payment.

As I have said on many occasions in the last year or so many of those with disabilities or mobility issues rely on the benefit to live as independently as we possibly can.

I for one rely on the benefit to live as independently as I possibly can whether that is travelling around the country using public transport or being able to feed myself.

There were months when I was wondering am I about to lose the benefits that I have claimed for a number of years whether that was them as disability living allowance or personal independence payment.

It is fair to say that the announcements surrounding this issue by the government took their toll on my mental health as I was left wondering am I about to lose the funds that I rely on as a disabled person.

My message to the outgoing labour leader and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Sir Keir Starmer is a clear and simple one and this, today you have done the right thing and stepped aside as our Prime Minister you lost my confidence as a member of our wonderful society when you began messing with the disabled community and the benefits that we rely on.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing the right thing and stepping aside, I hope that your successor whoever that might be will see that this policy around the welfare reforms was the wrong one and should be reversed.

However on a positive note, I do welcome the fact that you and your government nationalised the railways meaning that operators are now under public ownership and funds will come directly from the government to make real change across the rail networks.

I hope that the new government will fund the accessible waiting spaces project being delivered by one of the countries biggest rail operators so that those with disabilities or mobility issues can travel around the railways with ease for many years to come.

The blue and white boxes which feature of white wheelchair logo and the words for mobility assistance please wait here can be found over 35 railway stations on the networks managed by West Midlands railway and London North Northwestern railway.

Recently, I have asked the Department for Transport and government if they are prepared to fund an accessible waiting space at Ledbury railway station in Herefordshire.

This is a station that had its access for all funding removed by your government despite it being previously promised by other governments.

As always I believe that I worked community should be involved in every decision that is made at the very top of our country.

Our community deserve to be considered when every decision is being made by the government of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and that is something I will always believe and standby.
