I wouldn’t have been able to get home tonight if I had to travelled to Manchester for India versus Bangladesh in the T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup at Old Trafford.

Today (Thursday, June 25th 2026) I was meant to be travelling to Old Trafford in Manchester to watch India take on Bangladesh in the T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

However, I wouldn’t have been able to make it home by train after the match because the 18:30 Transport for Wales service from Manchester Piccadilly to Hereford has been cancelled.

This is as a direct result of Herefordshire and Manchester being under red and Amber extreme heat warnings respectively.

Those of you reading this right now will know that Network Rail have advised rail passengers to only travel if absolutely necessary to do so.

Heeding there advice I made the decision on Tuesday evening not to travel by rail to the match this afternoon.

Now that the train that I was meant to be getting home has been cancelled. It is clear to me that I made the correct decision.

Currently, the temperature in Herefordshire is 26 degrees with it currently being 27 degrees in Manchester at the time of writing this.

Temperatures across the United Kingdom are set to drop in the coming days, which is of course a welcome relief from the heat that we have experienced in recent days.

Cricket is one of the most accessible sports for those with disabilities or mobility issues and that is something which I will always believe and standby for many years to come.

I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the staff from Transport for Wales and across the rail network who are working hard to keep the railways open during the extreme heat.

Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated as always.
