The waiting spaces at various railway stations in the Midlands will not be needed on the 10th and 11th of July as strike action takes place, once again after doing so during the last couple of years.

There will be no need for the waiting spaces to be used at Worcester Shrub Hill and Foregate Street stations along with the ones at University, Barnt Green, Redditch and Droitwich Spa which also have the accessibility tools and will see passengers not making the most of tools as a result of the action

Since 2023 I have been working with the accessibility team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway to help them improve the access to rail travel for those with mobility issue or disabilities at some of the railway stations they manage across the network.

Blue and White boxes that feature a white wheelchair logo along with words for mobility assistance, please wait here are designed to give members of our community somewhere visible to wait for assistance when travelling to and from unstaffed stations or those that have high volumes of passengers requiring assistance at the station.

My message to fellow members of our community is a clear but simple one and is this, the fact that in many cases rail travel is an independence lifeline for us seems to be forgotten where it comes to the industrial action and this in my opinion should not of course be taken away.

This weekend I will for one be reminded of when I struggled to get to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in May 2024 when workers walked out over three consecutive days.
