If I board a train and ask you to move out of the accessible space on board just do it

On my way home from Milton Keynes after helping to deliver some lived experience passenger assistance training to new recruits of a rail operator I was forced into a difficult situation.

Once onboard the train at Milton Keynes Central railway station I had to ask a fellow passenger to move out of the accessible space on board.

The gentleman tried to move his suitcase over and signalled for to park up in the little space that was remaining whilst he continued to sit there.

After a couple of seconds I repeated to him (the passenger) that I required use of full space and not just some of it which he was offering.

He finally moved but left his suitcase in the space between my footplate and the wall of the train.

A few stops later it was time for him to alight the service so he stood up and pulled his suitcase forwards him from where it was being stored.

Much to my surprise the suitcase touched my feet as he began pulling towards him and this hurt a little bit.

My very clear and simple message to all rail passengers is this, if I or any other wheelchair and mobility scooter user asks you to move out of the designated spaces on board trains just do it without fuss.

I am not asking for the fun of it as that is not the way I am and never will be.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank all those rail passengers who do move out of my way when boarding trains so that I am able to safely and remain comfortable once my journey has started.

Your support with this does not go unnoticed and is of course as always very much appreciated.

Finally thank you to each and everyone of you my regular loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, as always it doesn’t go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
