Earlier this week I travelled by rail to England’s second city Birmingham and watched England take on India at Edgbaston in a One Day International which was the most enjoyable part of my day out.
On arrival back at Birmingham New Street railway station I headed into the Assisted Travel Lounge and informed them that I was here to get my train home to Hereford.
I was asked by the staff in the lounge to take a seat along with my best friend and wait for the person delivering my assistance to arrive, whilst waiting I was minding my own business and overheard a conversion amongst the staff about a passenger who had clearly made some sort of complaint.
Following the discussion of one the staff members proceeded to say and I quote “passengers and management are f**King a*seh**es” on hearing this I was in that much shock, so I decided to wheel out of longe and head down to the platform to ask the senior conductor if they could help me to board the Hereford train.
After hearing those remarks I was actually left wondering if they see me as a f***k**g A**eh**e because of the fact I have stood up for myself against them and the service which they deliver recently.
Having made a number of complaints in recent months to the rail operator, West Midlands Railway (WMR) about the passenger assistance I am being offered by the staff from Network Rail at the station who manage the service it almost makes me wonder what they have said me behind my back about me.
There is only one clear message that I have for the passenger assistance team at New Street station in Birmingham and that is this, as a disabled rail passenger who requires your support to board and disembark services at the station, I do not accept or tolerate this type of behaviour and will continue to call it out.
Once again it is time that you do so much better as I am quite simply fed up of experiencing issues at the station when using the service which you are meant to be providing for our (the disabled) community.
For the foreseeable future I will not be using the Assisted Travel Lounge at New Street until things dramatically improve with regards to the service they deliver and the customer service they provide to us as passengers.
Fours days on from the incident I am still in shock that someone deemed it necessary to say those things whilst passengers were actually using the lounge, it really is not on Birmingham New Street.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the accessibility team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway for there recent support with ensuring that I am being with regards to the assisted travel experiences I am currently having at the station.
Your support with this does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated and always will be.
