A reclassification of the personal independence payment scoring system is needed and not a blanket reform of the entire benefit.
Those of you reading this will know by now that I use a wheelchair and have two different conditions (Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus)
Having claimed Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance before then I couldn’t function without the support of either of the benefits.
As I have said in a previous post on the subject I rely on the monthly payments to pay for food and rail travel so that I am able to live as independently as possible for many years to come.
I have a clear but simple message for the Prime Minister and his Work and Pensions Secretary which is this, “ now is not the time to decide a blanket reform of the benefit is the right time way forward, there should be a reclassification of the current scoring system for the benefit”.
“ In my case i am able to do something’s for myself but not others and this is why I have different scores for each section of the PIP assessment”.
“ An example of this would be the fact that I require a little of bit support to shower myself but this is not for a whole shower”.
“ The wording surrounding the higher and lower grades needs to be reviewed and potentially changed so that it doesn’t draw attention to us and our disabilities”.
“ Using a wheelchair and claiming the benefit does not define me as an individual and never will”.
“ Prime Minister please also look at the way the letters sent to claimants when awarding the benefit is worded, going forward to reflect any changes”.
