I feel that not all members of our society accept disabled people for who we are and what we stand for this Disability Pride Month.

July is Disability Pride Month, however I know not all members of our society accept disabled people who we are and what we stand for as a community, this was something that I found out earlier this month whilst at one of regions train stations.

I travelled to Edgbaston in the second city of Birmingham where I watched England take on India in the first of three One Day International matches, however on return to New Street railway station my day quickly turned from enjoyment to anger much to my surprise.

As those of you reading this will know by now, whilst waiting in the assisted travel lounge at the station for the person who was going to be putting my on the train home to Hereford, I overheard a conversion amongst staff about passengers making complaints which was then proceeded by of the staff saying this ” passengers and management are fucking arseholes”.

It was at this point that I decided to leave the lounge and head for the platform so that I could self board with the support of the senior conductor from West Midlands Railway.

Having made several complaints in recent months about the service delivered by the passenger assistance team at the station, it feels like to me that those who deliver the service want us as passengers to ” put up and shut up” this is however something that I am not prepared to do and never will be.

Please do not restrict my freedom of speech when things are not right, Birmingham New Street it is not on and will not be tolerated.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the incredible staff who do deliver exceptional service at the railway station in Birmingham, as always it does not go unnoticed and is of course very appreciated and always will be.
