Railway stations across the network managed by West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway have accessible waiting spaces and signage on the platforms in some areas.
Some rail passengers may just see them as just a blue rectangle with a white wheelchair and the words “ for mobility assistance, please wait here”
However for passengers like me who need the use of them, they give peace of mind that I will be met by staff, assisted onboard the train and on my way within a matter of minutes once the train arrives.
The last few years have seen me work with the operator to develop a safe and visible space on station platforms so passengers are seen by staff station or train crew, when needing some assistance.
There are over 30 stations across the network with the tools and those stations include: Aston, Witton, Erdington, Gravelly Hill, Worcester Foregate Street and Tile Hill.
Travelling by rail as a wheelchair user has never been easier now that the tools are a feature of the stations make up across the network and always will be.
I am proud of the collaboration between myself and the operator which proves that feedback can really be taken seriously when given by customers.
Passengers have a number of options of how to book there assisted travel on the railways and those are:
By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.
Online: https://booking.passengerassistance.com
Using the Passenger Assistance App: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/passenger-assistance/id1542190496
Remember, you can turn up at a station and travel without booking any assistance prior to departure.

I would like to end by taking the opportunity to thank the team at the operator (West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway) who have gone above and beyond in recent weeks, months and years to improve the accessibility of the stations they manage on behalf of our community.
