I have never regarded myself as a community champion just a member of a minority group that wants to change the way there peers are able to live within our society.
A few weeks ago, the organises of the European athletics championships which are being hosted in Birmingham launched a call for nominations so that those who had done things to benefit the wider community could be recognised for their work.
Those who were nominated and then successful would be asked if they would like to start at one of the sessions at the championships.
Fortunately, I was nominated for my Work with the rail operator, West Midlands railway and London Northwestern Railway in helping them make some of the stations they manage accessible for those with disabilities or mobility issues.
As someone living with Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus I have never seen myself as a community champion.
All I want is for those from within our community to be able to live as independently as they possibly can.
Our railway network here in the United Kingdom is not accessible at all for those with mobility issues or disabilities and that is because of its aging infrastructure.
Hopefully, I have played a small part in helping to change how accessible our railways are by working with a local rail operator to make accessibility changes at some of the railway stations they are responsible for in the Midlands and further a field.
The blue and white boxes that also feature a white wheelchair logo along with the words for mobility assistance please wait to hear can be found at over 30 railway stations across the network.
In near the future, I hope to see even more railway stations around our beautiful region with these new accessibility tools on the platforms.
My message to anyone that sees something which needs to be changed either across the rail networks or any other part of society is to reach out to those who have the ability to change it and work with them to do so.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to personally thank the incredible team at West Midlands Railway who have gone above and beyond in recent weeks, months and years to ensure that I am able to travel around on the railways in the region with ease, it does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
