Those with disabilities or mobility issues living near to Perry Barr railway station and the Alexander Stadium would benefit from having waiting spaces on the platforms at there local station.

A railway station located near a major sports venue would benefit from having accessible waiting spaces and signage on the platforms.

Perry Barr station managed by West Midlands Railway is not very far from the Alexander Stadium which played host to the athletics competition during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The venue is currently staging the 2026 European Athletics Championships and has welcomed thousands of spectators in the last few days to the event.

If blue and white boxes which feature a white wheelchair logo along with the words for mobility assistance, please wait here were installed on the platforms it would give our community more support whilst using the railways in the region.

Earlier this week I asked the operator if this would be a possibility for the station, at the time of writing this they have told me that it hasn’t been specifically spoken of, but it can be considered.

This is a huge step forward in ensuring that our community can travel by rail with ease across the region especially to large scale events.

Stations that currently have the spaces across the network include, Aston, Coventry Arena, Tile Hill, Droitwich Spa and University.

Disabled rail passengers and local residents requiring support to board or disembark trains have already been using the spaces at Coventry Arena and Witton stations since their installation.

Having the spaces at Perry Barr station will make a massive difference for local residents and athletics fans with disabilities or mobility issues travelling by rail to the area.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to once again thank the accessibility team at West Midlands Railway (WMR) who have in recent weeks and months gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that our community are able to with friends or family travel around the region with ease.

Your support has not gone unnoticed and is of course as always very much appreciated.
