Just a few days ago I faced an unforeseen issue with one of the wheels of my wheelchair which meant that I didn’t want to risk travelling to the hippodrome theatre in Birmingham alone and watch Mrs Doubtfire the musical.
Within minutes of the issue occurring I contacted the box office at the theatre to explain the situation I was facing ahead of my planned visit to the establishment today.
Getting a refund for the ticket I had purchased for the show which only cost the grand total of £23.00 was not possible because I had not taken out ticket protection insurance when booking.
However the advisor that I spoke with on the phone went and took advice from one of the managers who agreed that I could be given a gift voucher for the amount of the purchased ticket.
This means that I will be able to use the voucher to cover the cost a ticket (or at least part of it) for any musical at the venue within the next couple of years. My message to the box office team at the venue is this, thank you from the bottom of my heart for understanding the situation that I found myself in earlier this week.
As a venue you didn’t have to deal with my issue in the that you did, this is why I love visiting the theatre once or twice each year, your support as always does not go unnoticed is very much appreciated and always will be.

I would like to take the opportunity to remind all those with accessibility needs that if you contact venues like theatres, concert or sports arenas about refunds for tickets when faced with situations like mine or other ones they will do what they can to assist you.
Speaking out and of course being heard gives you so much power over venues in my experience as a wheelchair user and activist.
Finally, thank you to each and everyone of you my regular loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, it does not go unnoticed and is of course as always very much appreciated.
