Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, the home of Glamorgan County Cricket Club is extremely accessible for supporters who have disabilities or mobility issues, this however is not always the case when visiting venues to watch live sport.
Having always been to Edgbaston in Birmingham to watch international cricket matches it was a nice change to visit somewhere different for once.
On arrival at the stadium following a 10 minute bus ride from the centre of Cardiff I finally along with my best friend made it to the doors of the magnificent stadium.
The stadium has 16 accessible toilets which can be found in specific areas with a changing spaces toliet (accessed with the use of a Radar key) being located in the Castell Howell Concourse.
As someone who of course relies on the use of accessible toilets within venues like these I found that they were extremely clean and spacious when I used them during the matches today, which was brilliant to see.
There are three main accessible viewing areas within the stadium and they can be found in blocks 19 and 20 (CM.Com Stand), block 38 (The Members Stand) and the Terrace Viewing Platform (accessed via the media centre ground floor lift).
My accessible seats were in block 20 meaning that I was located in the CM.Com Stand in the stadium, which had a decent view of both the pitch and action.
There are also dedicated disability stewards around the ground so that those from our community can access them with ease whilst inside the venue, enjoying the action which was great to see.
These stewards wear pink high vis jackets and were able to assist me in finding our seats as supporters who had not visited the stadium before.
Even using the food outlets dotted around was an easy experience with them having menu boards at height so that I could read them with ease and choose what I wanted to purchase.
To say that I really enjoyed my first visit to the stadium is an understatement and I am really looking forward to returning when England take on New Zealand next year.
