As a wheelchair user travelling around my home town’s pavement network would be so much easier if people were fined or warned by the local authority for putting and leaving there wheelie bins out for too long.

Derby council have spent 6 months conducting a pilot looking at whether they should fine or warn residents for putting and leaving there wheelie bins out for long periods of time.

As a wheelchair user hearing the news of this trial being conducted is music to my ears because wheelie bins are the bain of my life every day of the week.

Having to navigate around them in order to travel on the pavement network sometimes forces me into the road.

This has in the past put me in some very unsafe positions which isn’t something that I would like to see happen in the years to come.

My message to officials at the local authority in Herefordshire is this, I urge you to follow Derby Council’s lead with regards to this issue.

In following their lead, I would hope that the residents of our beautiful county would not leave their wheelie bins obstructing the pavement networks in our beautiful county for long periods of time.

Today (Wednesday, October 7th,2026) , I am urging you as an authority to explore this idea and if it could work in our county.

Please do something to stop our (the disabled) community having to put ourselves at risk when navigating around pavement obstacles like wheelie bins.

To say that I welcome what the council in Derby has attempted to do by exploring what could be done to tackle this ever growing issue is an understatement and I thank them for taking this issue so seriously on behalf of their residents with mobility issues or disabilities.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank people from across the nation, especially in Herefordshire who are responsible residents and leave their wheelie bins in a place where they do not obstruct pedestrians trying to use the pavements safely.

Your support with this has not gone unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated and always will be.

Finally, thank you to each and everyone of you my regular loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, it doesn’t go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated.
