Event organisers at the Horse of the Year Show told of my experience whilst at the show on Saturday evening as a wheelchair user

Earlier today I wrote the event director at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in Birmingham following my experience at the show on Saturday evening (10th of October, 2026).

In the letter that was sent just a few hours ago to the organisers I shared that ” during some of the evening performance I struggled to see the action which was just meters away from where I was seated.

This all stems from there being decorations in the form of chains and supporting posts across the entire wheelchair platform on both sides of the arena at the BP Pulse Live in the second city.

I went onto add that if nothing was done to the solve the issue I would have to consider if I should attend the event again or not in the future, as paying £79.10 for a wheelchair accessible space on one of the four platforms at the venue is a lot of money if you are unable to see any of the action.

Organisers have in the last few minutes or so been made aware of the challenges that I faced last night, so all I can hope is that something is done quickly to rectify the issue ahead of the final evening performance which starts in under an hours time.

Unfortunately this is not the first time where I have faced an issue of this nature when attending a horse show in the United Kingdom as someone that uses a wheelchair to navigate everyday life.

Despite facing these challenges I absolutely loved my visit to the latest edition of the show and will hopefully return to witness the show once again from the accessible viewing platform in a couple of years time.

My message to the event director and there operations team is this, hopefully you are able to find my be better useful and are able rectify the issues quickly so that disabled spectators are able to enjoy all of show without any disruption.

There is nothing worse than visiting a show like HOYS as a wheelchair user and struggle to see any of the action which is in front of you because of things that are out of your control as a spectator.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the organisers of HOYS (The Horse of the Year Show) for reacting to my concerns within hours of them being raised.

Your support has not go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated and always will be.
