As a wheelchair user, who had an obstructed view from the accessible viewing platform on Saturday night when attending the 2026 edition of the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), I have decided not to attend the show again in the future.
Earlier this week I received a response to the concerns that I raised with organisers who said that nothing could be done about the obstructions due to them being a health and safety measure.
I strongly believe that this is not the case and is being used as an excuse to do absolutely nothing about the concerns I raised.
They, the organisers did however ask for photos of the obstruction to my view, but I don’t see this will make any difference to them wanting to fix this issue.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t the only wheelchair user on the platforms that faced this issue because the ropes were scattered along the viewing platforms at the side of the arena.
My message to the organisers of the show is this, due to your response to the concerns that I have raised with you recently I have absolutely no confidence in anything changing so have taken the decision not to attend the show again in the future.
However, I know that this will make no difference to you, but it is sad that you as the organisers chose not to take my experiences as a first-time show goer seriously.

It is only right that I take this opportunity to thank the stewards at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham who did try and ensure that those on the accessible viewing platform could see some of the action during the evening by moving everyone along the platform.
Your support by doing this did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated and always will be.
