Accessibility in the car park for those with disabilities or mobility issues at Hereford railway station is dangerous and needs to improve.

The accessibility of the car park at the railway station in Hereford is inaccessible and dangerous for those with disabilities or mobility issues.

Recently I got dropped off by car at the station when travelling to New Street station in Birmingham.

Due to the construction of the Hereford transport hub there are only two disabled parking spaces in what I used to regard as the overflow car park.

Shockingly on the day I travelled cars were already parked in the disabled parking spaces and did not appear to have a blue badge.

This meant that I had to be dropped off in the spaces reserved for taxis because those are relatively big ones.

My message to the cabinet member for Transport and Infrastructure at Herefordshire Council is a clear one and this, please look at a solution for where the disabled parking spaces can be relocated to within the car park at the station.

As this would allow our (the disabled) community to be safely dropped off at the station away from the mouth of the main car park.

Travelling by rail as a wheelchair user is an independence lifeline and always will be for me. However, currently this is being made more difficult by the lack of accessible parking at my local railway station.

Please just do the right thing and make the parking more accessible at the station for those who rely on it.

It is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the passengers using the car park at Hereford railway station who don’t park in the disabled spaces so those who need them, are able to use them with ease.

Your support with this does not go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated and always will be.
