The rail operator, West Midlands Trains issued a total of 40,000 fines in 2023 to those who hadn’t paid for a train ticket when using the network to get around the region and beyond.
Those who fare evade are slapped with a fine of £100 by the companies revenue protection officers and that would see the organisation claw back a tidy sum of 4 million pounds that I believe should be spent on improving the accessibility of their network for passengers.
I spent most of 2023 campaigning for the accessibility of the network managed by WMT (West Midlands Trains) to be improved for those passengers who have access needs when using public transport like trains.
The signage that has been promised for Witton Lane station in Birmingham could be created and installed using the funds that I mentioned at the beginning of this piece talking about a very emotive issue.
I hope that those with accessibility needs will benefit from the new signage at Villa Park’s main railway station for years to come thanks to my tireless work and recent engagement with the team at WMT.
I have written a significant number of blogs about this issue and they can be checked out below:

I know that this is quite a short blog about something positive that could come out of a very negative situation for others who use the rail network in the West Midlands region.
